Anna’s Natural Hospital Birth Story: “I knew my body would find a way!”

Meet Anna, new mother who comes from an academic/ research/ engineering background and was interested in birth that was about her body doing what it could, yet made a conscious decision not to get involved with the numbers/ stats/ timing of her labour and stay in her meditational space. This helped in having a natural birth in hospital.

She also drew on her prenatal yoga, calmbirth teachings as well as the support of her trusted independant midwife and husband in labour and birth which she found invaluable.

As a hiker she was well prepared for the physical challenge of labour and was able to keep going, even when she was exhausted. Her mantra “just one more” helped her through and her understanding of the process of labour enabled her to recognise when she hit a crisis of confidence. She talks about how we are encouraged in the sporting arena, yet others respond to challenges very differently in a childbirth setting.

Expressing colostrum in pregnancy also gave her confidence and peace of mind when things were off to a rocky start with breastfeeding. Learn more in this inspiring story!
